Cannot use vmdk if UUID already exists — at Initial Version

Description
When creating a new machine that uses a copy of an existing vmdk another VM, an error says that it failed to open the hard disk - because the UUID already exists.
This is very annoying and inconvenient. Is there some other way to clone a vmdk so that it will not affect the guest OS ability to boot?
