Description
Requesting addition of USB Sound hardware emulation in the guest as an alternative to the current ICH AC97 and SoundBlaster 16 choices.
Emulating some basic USB Audio hardware like what the C-Media chip provides (which is already supported but most all guest OSes including Windows, Linux, Mac OS X Server). Examples of real hardware with this chip are:

Currently the only way to get audio working in the Mac OS X Server guest is by plugging in one of the above adapters on the host and sharing it with the guest. It would be nice if VirtualBox offered built-in USB Audio hardware emulation similarly to the way it offers built-in USB tablet device emulation (when "Enable absolute pointing device" is checked).

HDAudio support is being developed right now. That's a better solution than what you propose. (USB isn't very virtualization friendly; too much overhead)
