Description
After upgrading to from v2.2.4 to v3.0.6 my WinXP VBox booted normally and I could run play some audio files which I kept on WinXP.
However yesterday I tried to run Stellarium 0.10.2 on WinXP within v3.0.6 Vbox and found that Stellarium would fail to run, thinking there was a problem with Stellarium I uninstalled it which was successful, however on attempting to re-install Windows flashed up a message indicating that it could not overwrite an existing file. I attempted to upgrade the Guest Addition tools which failed due to write permission failure.
Suspecting v3.0.6 I downgraded back to V2.2.4 and WinXP file system weirdness stopped, Stellarium installed correctly! I could also upgrade the Windows Guest Addition tools from v2.2.0 to v2.2.4 without a problem.
The file system weirdness appears to be related to permissions so that as Administrator these access rights are not received or interpreted correctly. In particular when installing the Guest Additions and WinXP prompts if you wish to continue this is where the process fails under v3.0.6.
