Virtualbox VM crashes with macOS Catalina host and High Sierra guest

Description
This crash occurs with VirtualBox 6.1.16 r140961 (Qt5.6.3). I have attached the crash report which says:
abort() called VirtualBoxVM(2751,0x700009f62000) malloc: Incorrect checksum for freed object 0x7feb1d5627f8: probably modified after being freed. Corrupt value: 0x0
A different crash occurs with the same program running on a macOS Mojave guest. That crash is reported on the guest as a bus error 10, but only after the VM window stops responding, and the VM is then paused and unpausing. This crash occurs in a restored snapshot from July 23. The program ran without errors at the time the snapshot was taken, as verified by log files generated at that time.
The program which is running when these crashes occur is the Tk regression test suite. I am trying to use the VMs to verify that the Tk regression tests pass on older versions of macOS.

I noticed that the Mojave guest SATA Controller was configured to use Host I/O Cache while the HighSierra guest was not. When I disabled using the Host I/O Cache for the Mojave guest I got the same crash that I got with High Sierra. I will attach the crash report and the log for that crash as well.
