Reported by: MasterCATZ Owned by:
Component: installer Version: VirtualBox 6.0.14
Keywords: kernel Cc:
Guest type: other Host type: other

Description

Last working Kernel was 5.3.8

as always DKMS fails

where can someone actually see where the last supported kernel is instead of installing a heap of kernels to find the last working one ?

not even any mention in change logs ...

close this ticket apparently I still had V5.2 traces even tho I have been running V6 for ages ..

at first I thought I broke it when reinstalling 6.0.14 because it spat out more errors .. attached install log

but after reboot it seems to be working fine with kernel 5.3.11-050311-generic

Resolution: invalid
Status: newclosed

you where building a GA version of VBOX against a 5.4-rc7 kernel according to your log file:

Building the main VirtualBox module.
Error building the module:
make V=1 CONFIG_MODULE_SIG= -C /lib/modules/5.4.0-rc7+/build M=/tmp/vbox.0 SRCROOT=/tmp/vbox.0 -j8 modules
make[1]: warning: -jN forced in submake: disabling jobserver mode.

That only works for the current develeopment branch, aka. trunk. see:

#18945: Linux 5.4: no more arbitrary executable pages and more changes https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/19052

If in doubt, please ask in the forums or the email aliases for help rather then filing bugs.
