    initial v1
I have found the solution to Windows 7 and probably Windows Vista Guests, working with Virtualbox 6.1.0. If you install DirectX 9, everything will work again. Somewhere between creating support for Linux 5.1 and 5.3, somebody introduced a dependency on DirectX 9.
 - My Windows 7 Guest works fine again after I installed DirectX 9.
 - I can't test it for Windows Vista, since the VBox Manager 6.1.0 puts the driver back to VBoxVGA as soon as you select 3D acceleration. That VBox Manager 6.1.0 will not accept the combination of VBoxSVGA and 3D acceleration.
 - I'm curious what DirectX version will be needed for Windows 10.

BY the way 6.1.0 did give me an error message to look in the manual and after some searching and looking into the log, I detected that a module belonging Directx 9 was missing. So maybe you should undo this dependency or warn during installation that you have a new dependency on DirectX 9.

If you can't reproduce the problem for Ubuntu, it might be a compatibility issue between AMD Vega driver and Virtualbox 3D acceleration. I do not have a problem with my i5 laptop, only with my Ryzen 3 2200G and Vega 8. The symptoms are different, it is not a random distortion, but a very clear overwriting of the wallpaper (Ubuntu 19.10) or the Unity dock and top panel (Ubuntu 16.04), directly after the completion of the login.

I will try the Ryzen with an ancient 2010 GeForce 8400GS video card on Monday.
