    1 I managed to solve this. VirtualBox and VirtualBox Extension Pack can be installed into Ubuntu Linux either through VirtualBox downloads or with apt-get from Ubuntu's repository. When a Virtual Machine is created under one install method then reinstalls via the other method, it can cause multiple problems. The ones I've encountered or that I've seen reported:

     132) Ubuntu's official repository. Your version will generally be older but will be part of Ubuntu's official testing, bug-fixes, etc. Install it via apt:
