Description

I have image distortions when using the Cadence Allegro circuit board design package. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 as the guest OS on a Debian 9.6 host with an Nvidia Quattro K620 video card. I have tried various settings and Virtualbox 5.22 and 6.0 and a different video driver but that didn't improve things. The picture below is with 3D accelleration disabled. With 3D accelleration enabled it won't even draw correctly: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/eda/problems-running-allegro-17-2-in-virtualbox/

The software (trial version) and the design file can be downloaded from here: https://www2.orcad.com/Extranet/96712/forms.aspx?msgid=b8d688a9-82e7-4c8e-afaf-2e4366069fad&LinkID=CH00096712eR00000066AD

  1. The makers of the OrCAD software make it getting a trial version more difficult than taking out a wisdom tooth!
  1. I was able to get "OrCADTrial.exe, 5663760 bytes" but it does nothing on my Win7-32bit VM, won't even install. On my Win10-64 bit, I was greeted with the warning:

WARNING: You are either installing OrCAD Trial on a virtual machine or using remote desktop service to perform installation. OrCAT Trial is not designed to work on terminal server-based remote desktops. Do you want to continue?

So, I take it that even they know of the issues?
  1. It's usually better and faster, if issues get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums, a lot more eyes there. More than 95% of the issues are resolved over there, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of.
  1. You were supposed to follow these steps when you filed the bug, and provide a VBox.log:

Attach a (full) log file ("Machine" menu/"Show Log" in the main VirtualBox Manager window) straight away to save time for you and for us. The log file contains a lot of useful information about both the host and the guest systems as well as information about what happened during a particular machine run. Please do not cut and paste it.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
