22> Did I understand correctly - and if I did, I definitely should have asked earlier: are you using the Guest Additions provided by your distribution, not by us?

4 With Arch, you have no choice.  The official ISO has no compile branch that recognizes Arch as a legitimate distribution. HOWEVER:
     4Yes and No.
    55
6 - They build the packages from the source code on your ISO
7 - I used your ISO to confirm the effect in Ubuntu, and it did confirm it in both Unity and Gnome
6With Arch (and in Corax's case), the answer is "yes" because Corax doesn't no choice.  Y'all's ISO has no compile branch that recognizes Arch as a legitimate distribution (although they somehow compile their package from your source code repository).

9 The problem is almost definitely a guest-utils code change that occurred between the 5.0.16 and 5.0.18 guest-utils ISO, and propagated forward ever since to subsequent guest-utils ISOs and distribution packages.  I stopped using the Ubuntu packages specifically to eliminate the possibility of there being a packaging problem.
8However, in my case and with Ubuntu, the answer is No.  I used y'all's ISO to confirm the effect, and I did confirm it in two desktop environments.

10The problem is almost definitely a guest-utils code change that occurred between the 5.0.16 and 5.0.18 guest-utils ISO, which affects OSX hosts, and which has been carried forward ever since to both subsequent guest-utils versions and the packages that are generated from this source code.

12I stopped using the Ubuntu packages specifically to eliminate the possibility of there being a packaging problem (as Ubuntu has it's own packages as well), and the issue remains.
