Network interface dropping

Reported by: sutterfield Owned by:
Component: network/NAT Version: VirtualBox 4.3.22
Keywords: NIC Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description

Windows 7 host and the behavior has been seen in both Linux (CentOS) and Solaris 11. This seems to be specific to hosts with the INTEL 82579LM Gigabit Network adapter. We have other devices using different intel adapters that appears to be working correctly. This seems to have started after the latest Windows Updates. I also migrated a CentOS VM which was having this issue to the VMWare player and it ran without errors.

The CentOS log on the Virtualbox guest shows the following:

Feb 18 15:06:40 ssrcp200157-CentOS6-VM kernel: : e1000: eth0 NIC Link is Down
Feb 18 15:06:40 ssrcp200157-CentOS6-VM NetworkManager[1481]: <info> (eth0): carrier now OFF (device state 8, deferring action for 4 seconds)
Feb 18 15:06:44 ssrcp200157-CentOS6-VM kernel: : e1000: eth0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX
Feb 18 15:06:44 ssrcp200157-CentOS6-VM NetworkManager[1481]: <info> (eth0): carrier now ON (device state 8)
Feb 18 15:13:12 ssrcp200157-CentOS6-VM kernel: : e1000: eth0 NIC Link is Down

The VBox log is included for a CentOS and Solaris guest each experiencing the same issues. I have not tested a Windows guest.
