Description
I'm running Windows 8.1, with Intel Core i5-3570K cpu, Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H motherboard, and Virtual Box 4.3.20. The bios is set to enable virtualization. Using Intel's Processor Identification Utility, I've verified "Intel(R) Virtualization Technology" is "Yes", meaning it's enabled. In VirtualBox 4.3.20, all virtual machines do not start: "VT-x is not available". Rolling back to VirtualBox 4.3.18, all virtual machines work fine. Identification of the virtualization state no longer works for my machine.
In addition, I've noticed that VirtualBox---somehow---altered the settings of the virtual machine, specifically the number of processors. It really should never change my settings without my permission.

When I get a chance in the next few days, I will try to reinstall 4.3.20, and capture the log. Thanks for the info on the accidental changes.

I can't seem to reproduce this problem on 4.3.20 now. It's seems likely that my motherboard may be acting flaky. I'd like to request that this bug be closed. If I seem to be able to reproduce it later, I'll attach a log.

The mysterious change of the number of processors are most likely accidental changes which in fact you nodded off by clicking "Ok". If the host doesn't support VT-x (and it really needs to be found out ASAP why - do you have a log file for any VM run with 4.3.20?) then the CPU count is limited to 1.
