#11379 obsolete Windows 8 guest freezes linux user i/o James Moe
Description

linux v3.4.11-2.16-desktop x86_64 opensuse v12.2 gnome v3.4.x windows v8 32bit (XP upgrade)

A Windows 8 guest can freeze the desktop. User I/O is dead: mouse, keyboard, desktop/monitor. There is still life in the system; I can see disk activity, but there is no hope of interaction. A reboot is required.

#11380 obsolete Failed to attach USB device Lou Cipher
Description

I have Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and VirtualBox 4.2.6 (latest) running Windows XP.

I keep trying to install an external Maxtor OneTouch II drive via USB.

I added a filter, selected USB 2.0, installed the Oracle Extension pack and guest additions.

Yet, when I boot into Windows XP, the drive is first noticed by OS X and if I try and select it from the USB Devices menu I get the following error:

Failed to attach the USB device Maxtor OneTouch II [0203] to the virtual machine WindowsXP. USB device 'Maxtor OneTouch II' with UUID {8e3859d5-a204-4ee0-bc6b-33c934a7da41} is not in the right state for capturing (PhysDetached).

So, I have to eject the drive from the Finder under OS X.

After doing that, VirtualBox shows no devices available at all under the USB Devices menu whereas there use to be a number of devices (both greyed out and black).

So, I have to shutdown Windows XP and Quit VirtualBox for it work again because most popup boxes appear blank (whereas they used to have text in them).

So, when I try again I have to unplug then plug back in the USB drive.

Then I relaunch VirtualBox then Windows XP.

This time I eject the drive from Finder under OS X.

Then I try and select the USB external OneTouch Maxtor II drive but get this error message now:

Failed to attach the USB device Unknown device to the virtual machine .

This is driving me nuts as I am trying to access years of data and can not at this time.

If there is something I am doing wrong please let me know however after reading lots of discussions on the forums it seems this is a bug (I could be wrong though...)

Thanks,

so I have to eject it from Finder because VirtualBox has the item greyed out under USB

#11383 obsolete Adding CPU cores to guest decreases performance todd
Description

I'm running Linux Mint 13 (maya) lts x64 linux Kernel 3.2.0-35 generic on a dual processor 4 core machine Xeon 5340 , w/16 gb memory. Vbox version is 4.2.6 r82870

The guest I'm having issues with in MS Windows Server R2 x64. When I configure the machine for 1 or 2 cores it functions normally, but I find as I add additional processor cores each addition reduces guest responce. to the point of taking hours to do a simple task.

Is there any way to fix this problem.
