#11341 obsolete poor 2D-Video-Acceleration performance after update 4.2.4 => 4.2.6 bkgmjo
Description

When using 2D-Video acceleration on machines that used to work fine in scaled mode on VB 4.2.4 minutes ago the contents of the screen are now barely drawn.

The logon screen of Windows for example only shows some pixles of my typing, if any at all. Mouse cursor on integrated mode is barely visible. Going back to unscaled mode displays everything fine.

Also the CPU load even without 2D-Video acceleration on the host system during scaled mode is much higher in this version, maxing out 2 of my CPU cores on smallest screen changes.

I never checked this before on Version 4.2.4 but should 2D-Acceleration not use the hosts graphic hardware? It shows 0% Load on my GPU. Might be the problem here.

Changing the amount of virtual graphic memory does not seem to have any effect, same with the 3D-acceleration option. Also tried reinstalling everything without luck.

This is 100% reproducible with all my machines using as Guest Windows 7 or Windows XP.

System:

Phenom 2 955 x4 (4x 3.2 GHz)

12 GB DDR-3 Ram

Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 (850MHz/1GB GDDR-5)

Windows 7 x64

Have a happy new year!

#11346 obsolete VB 4.2.6 a CPU hog on Win7/64bit host with no VM started nizze
Description

Just upgraded from v4.1.22-80657 (no CPU hogging problem for this one) to the latest VB. Installed VB with both Bridging and Host-Only networking selected. However now just starting up the new VB (with no guest VM started) my 4.2 GHz quad core 2500K pegs in at 20% for VirtualBox.exe and 28% for VBOXSVC.exe according to Task Manager.

When using Sysinternal's Process Explorer and its Thread tab for the VboxSVC.exe process we find four rather CPU consuming ntdll.dllRtlValidateHeap+0x170 threads. For process VirtualBox.exe we have two ditto named threads plus a thread called VirtualBox.exeTrustedMain+0x2bc92c.

Nothing have changed in my software setup before updating VB. And if I go back to v4.1.22-80657 there's no CPU hogging anymore...
