#11218 obsolete UI hangs temporarily when choosing a new CD image georgeby
Description

When right-clicking the CD option and selecting a CD / DVD image, the UI hangs for 30 seconds before showing the right-click menu.

This does not happen if you clear the menu and right-click again.

This may happen for any number of CD/DVD images, and is not limited to any particular OS or VM OS setting.

During this period, the CPU is maxed out for the number of CPUs the VM is using, to the point where the host input message buffers may become unresponsive (e.g. jagged mouse movement, beeping).

This has happened since v4.1.0. Currently running v4.2.0.

Host OS - Windows 7 Enterprise 16GB RAM, 8 CPU cores (i7 4-core HT)

Description

I have Virtualbox 4.2.4 installed on OS X server 10.7.5 host. I have one VM running (Ubuntu 12.0.4 LTS), headless mode. I have had the system running for approximately 1 month. I have had 3 panics in this time where I have had to power cycle the host. Console log has many of the following errors:

Nov 19 00:51:25 mail kernel[0]: aio_queue_async_request(): too many in flight for proc: 16.

Nov 19 07:44:07 mail kernel[0]: aio_queue_async_request(): too many in flight for proc: 16.

I have never seen these errors on this server before and the only new software is VBox. The server has been very stable up until this point. Any help finding the cause of this appreciated.

#11220 obsolete Installing Windows 2008 R2 - fails JoseSalas
Description

I have the following setup:

  • MacBook 13" - Late 2008 Model with Mountain Lion 10.8.2
  • I connect to a Windows 7 PC using RDP
  • On the Windows 7 Desktop, I have Virtual Box 4.2.4 r81684
  • When I try and create and install a Windows 2008 R2 (Enterprise Edition) VM with the following configuration: Hostname: dllnx02.us.oracle.com OS: Windows 2008 R2 (64 Bit) - Simple Image RAM: 3072 MB CPU's: 2 Hardware Virtualization: VT-x/AMD-V  &  Nestad Paging Extended Features: IO APIC  &  absolute pointing device Boot Order: NIC, CD/DVD-ROM, Hard Disk Display: 32 MB RAM (no 3-d acceleration) Storage:
    • Hard Disk - OS:  SATA Port 0 - 75 GB - Normal (VDI) - Fixed Size Storage
    • Hard Disk - Shared Storage: Sata Port 1 - 100GB - Shareable (VDI) - Fixed Size Storage Audio: Enabled with Intel HD Audio Network:
    • Adapter 1 Bridged: Public NIC using Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection - on Intel Pro / 1000 Desktop (82540EM) -- MAC: 08:00:27:D8:D9:B1
    • Adapter 2 Host-Only Adapter: Private NIC (shared to local VM's - with VBox's built-in DHCP Server) -- MAC: 08:00:27:7D:0E:13 No Serial Ports USB: Enabled - but no devices mapped Shared Folders: None Setup - but available

Windows starts the initial install - but fails with:

  • Cannot copy drivers

To get around this - I must do the following: -- Set the OS to: Other Windows -- Disable USB AND Serial Ports -- I have not re-enabled them after the install - but will attempt that

This only happens on:

Hardware Details:

Dell Optiplex 790

Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10 GHz

RAM: 8.00 GB

System Type: 64-bit

Running Windows 7 Professional - SP1

This does not happen on my MacBook - it's limited to this Dell (That I know of)
