| #15596 | worksforme | Vbox 5.1 fails to show its UI if kernel modules are not installed | ||
| Description |
I installed VirtualBox-5.1.0-108711-Linux_amd64.run and while previous versions of VirtualBox ran just fine without installed kernel modules, version 5.1 never starts while in console you get an endless stream of the same error: WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (4.5.5-ic64) or it failed to
load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by
sudo /sbin/vboxconfig
You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
I'd like the previous behavior to be reinstated: you can run VBox GUI but when you want to start any VM, this message is shown. |

| #15594 | invalid | VB hangs on linux guest reboot. -> not reproducible in a new virtual machine | ||
| Description |
Since the version I don't remember sometimes my Linux guests (was Xubuntu 14, now Manjaro) hang on reboot. Not just guest but the whole VB window where guest lives. When I attempt to close VB's guest window it goes to "Not Responding" state, next close attempt -> VB guest window closes and guest goes to the "Interrupted" state. I think the hang somehow related to video driver coz it happens when the additions try to increase guest resolution. BTW it unrelated to 3D, I tried to disable/enable it without any good result. The hang is very random and happens only on reboot and never on start from the shutdown state. Sometimes it hangs on black screen, sometimes on partially drawn DE screen. Windows' VB process eats one or two CPU cores. I attached VB log after the hang. The guest is Manjaro (Arch derivative), additions are from recent 5.1 RC, VB itself - last stable 5.0.24. |

After upgrading virtualbox (including the guest additions) on my guest from 5.0.12 to any higher version it occasionally happens that xorg can't find a screen. The details (including log messages) are reported in this NixOS issue: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/16641
An intertesting message in (II) vboxvideo: kernel driver found, not loading. |
