#3779 obsolete 100% cpu load on host with 1000hz guest kernels Niki Waibel
Description

yes, the manual says:

11.3 Linux guests
11.3.1 Linux guests may cause a high CPU load
Some Linux guests may cause a high CPU load even if the guest system appears to
be idle. This can be caused by a high timer frequency of the guest kernel. Some
Linux distributions, for example Fedora, ship a Linux kernel configured for a timer
frequency of 1000Hz. We recommend to recompile the guest kernel and to select a
timer frequency of 100Hz.

but i'd like to request an enhancement to fix this.

sure, using a 100hz guest kernel helps, reducing the load on the host. but running 10 100hz guest kernels will give the same problem.

further, running 1000hz kernels on other virtualisation sw works just smoothly. this means, with some effort, it is possible to fix this issue.

#15302 worksforme 100% cpu usage by VBoxHeadless sehammond
Description

Getting constant 19-24% cpu usage (4 cpu cores on this computer so essentially one cpu is maxed) on VBoxHeadless. Running on a linux 64bit server, 3.10.17 kernel. Client is Windows 7 64bit, one cpu (not smp). Accidentally started with -e TCP/Ports=35 instead of 3395 as I had intended. Windows 7 taskmgr.exe reports constant 1% cpu usage. Using 5.0.16.

I cant touch the server during the day, will try later to see if this reproducible and if the port 35 is truly the problem.

#1774 obsolete 100% cpu usage when doing nothing on Macbook pro OSX duo dual (os is opensolatis 2008.05) ludo
Description

virtual box 1.6.2 on Mac book pro (latest update), dual core duo processor. opensolaris 2008.05 installed and upgraded to build 90.

when opensolaris is booted in the vm (and then does nothing), virtualbox process takes almost 100% of a CPU.

I've seen many other reports, talking about a few workarounds including processor affinity but I can't control affinity on mac.

So bottom line, virtualbox/opensolaris on mac in not usable at all.
