| #11380 | obsolete | Failed to attach USB device | ||
| Description |
I have Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and VirtualBox 4.2.6 (latest) running Windows XP. I keep trying to install an external Maxtor OneTouch II drive via USB. I added a filter, selected USB 2.0, installed the Oracle Extension pack and guest additions. Yet, when I boot into Windows XP, the drive is first noticed by OS X and if I try and select it from the USB Devices menu I get the following error: Failed to attach the USB device Maxtor OneTouch II [0203] to the virtual machine WindowsXP. USB device 'Maxtor OneTouch II' with UUID {8e3859d5-a204-4ee0-bc6b-33c934a7da41} is not in the right state for capturing (PhysDetached). So, I have to eject the drive from the Finder under OS X. After doing that, VirtualBox shows no devices available at all under the USB Devices menu whereas there use to be a number of devices (both greyed out and black). So, I have to shutdown Windows XP and Quit VirtualBox for it work again because most popup boxes appear blank (whereas they used to have text in them). So, when I try again I have to unplug then plug back in the USB drive. Then I relaunch VirtualBox then Windows XP. This time I eject the drive from Finder under OS X. Then I try and select the USB external OneTouch Maxtor II drive but get this error message now: Failed to attach the USB device Unknown device to the virtual machine . This is driving me nuts as I am trying to access years of data and can not at this time. If there is something I am doing wrong please let me know however after reading lots of discussions on the forums it seems this is a bug (I could be wrong though...) Thanks, so I have to eject it from Finder because VirtualBox has the item greyed out under USB |

| #10229 | duplicate | HostMemoryLow - Memory leak? | ||
| Description |
My host is a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 64 bit Professional - 8GB RAM. I've been working with Virtualbox for months with no problems. I recently installed 4.0.18 also. Suddenly last week I started to get HostMemoryLow error. I get it for VMs exceeding 3GB of RAM. Moreover, if a VM is configured for 3GB and I run another (e.g. an Active Directory server), the AD server gives the error (the AD server is just 385MB RAM, but brings the total RAM used by Virtualbox over the apparent limit of 3GB). I tried to re-install Virtualbox, I tried to go back to 4.0.16. I run my antivirus and I found a MALJAVA trojanhorse, that the virus eliminated. I re-installed JAVA just to make sure. the puzzling thing is that I also use VMware on the same laptop. While all this testing was going on with Virtualbox I could run VMware VMs to up to 5GB without an hitch. Please help. |
