#8184 obsolete Connecting USB webcam crashes VirtualBox alphazo
Description
  • Hardware: Lenovo X201, i5 based, 4GB RAM
  • Host: ArchLinux 64-bit
  • Kernel: 2.6.37
  • Guest: Windows XP SP3 + Guest Addons
  • Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension: 4.0.2r69518

I tried both the USB internal Webcam (Chicony Integrated Camera) and the USB Guillemot Corporation DualPix HD720p and they both badly crashe VirtualBox. On the other hand USB high-speed flash drives work fine.

When connecting the DualPix HD720p, the VM crashes and shows as aborted but some processes keep running:

# ps aux | grep irtual
alpha 8403 5.4 1.4 565524 56288 ? Sl 22:22 0:21 /usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox
alpha 8421 0.2 0.0 45568 3760 ? S 22:22 0:01 /usr/lib/virtualbox/VBoxXPCOMIPCD

alpha 8951 0.0 0.0 10484 1012 pts/0 S+ 22:29 0:00 grep --color=auto irtual

Log file is attached. I followed the instruction to enable the generation of a core dump but no core.{pid} file was generated.
