#10593 obsolete arp mac address collision if DHCP server has same IP as host-only adapter VirtualBox User
Description

My guest's network adapter is set to host-only mode. In File..Preferences..Network, if I modify my host-only adapter so that the IPv4 address matches the DHCP server address, arp requests from the guest will get two replies from two mac addresses: one from the host OS and one from the DHCP server.

Sometimes the guest OS will pick the mac address corresponding to the host. When this happens, networking works fine. When the guest OS picks the mac address corresponding to the DHCP server, networking stops working because packets destined to the host are sent to the wrong mac address.

My setup:

  • VirtualBox 4.1.16
  • host Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 Precise) amd64
  • guest NetBSD 6.0_BETA i386
  • host-only networking
#10595 obsolete After Update from 4.0.16 to 4.1.16: "Cannot access the kernel driver" Message Arend99
Description

Exactly the same problem and solution as described here:

https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46845

"It seems at least on my system two device drivers are not installed by the installation program. After a manual installation of these drivers everything works again. Go to C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\USB\filter Select VBoxUSBMon.inf and click the right mouse button. Then pick Install. Go to C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\vboxdrv Select VBoxDrv.inf and click the right mouse button. Then pick install. VirtualBox should now work again as expected."

If you could please fix this update problem.

Thanks

#10597 obsolete Seamless windows managed by host window manager Hiroe
Description

Disadvantages of the current seamless module are that you can't have different windows at different strata. One window can't be covered while the other isn't. A native window is either above all the host windows or none of them. Not being able to take advantages of window manager feature like snapping windows, virtual desktops or always on top is annoying as well. To say nothing about how broken seamless mode is on a tiling window manager.

Seamless RDP fixes this by spawning each windows as it's own xserver window, instead of just one window with transparency. I'd like to see something like that on virtualbox, as seamless RDP is not very efficient and can be difficult for users to set up.
