#10486 obsolete CCID USB card reader within an XP guest fails to start Rafael
Description

I have a USB card reader as specified on the picture and it doesn't work on Windows XP as guest. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 as host.

When I plug in into my Win XP guest, it fails to start the device.

Some comments:

1) I'm already member of the vboxusers and plugdev groups;

2) My WinXP is totally updated with Service Pack 3 and some hotfixes are already installed (particulary this one KB968730, as recommended from the manufacturer's website);

3) The device drivers on WinXP are installed and updated;

4) I've created a USB filter for the device and indeed it doesn't work either;

There are some pictures attached that show the problem. It fails with an error code 10 saying that the device driver cannot start.

#10487 obsolete VirtualBox upgrade should not fail, if the old kernel modules cannot be removed Harri
Description

Debian Linux host (Squeeze):

If VirtualBox is running, then the postinst script does not allow to complete the upgrade to a newer version. The new user space binaries are all put into place (AFAICS), but the new kernel modules are not built and the upgrade fails.

In an enterprise environment this means a lot of additional work for the IT folks, begging the users to stop their VirtualBox sessions before leaving. Highly painful. And the users don't want to be bothered by this, either.

It would be much smarter if the postinst script wouldn't fail about this. Since the old vbox* modules are already loaded in the kernel, the module files(!) can be overwritten without affecting the running VirtualBox sessions (similar to the user space binaries).

To be on the safe side the VirtualBox startup script could check the vbox* kernel modules on the next reboot and rebuild them, if they don't match the installed VirtualBox version. This check should be trivial.

#10488 obsolete Virtualbox Setup has a small theming issue Andre.Ziegler
Description

After the setup is finished you have a checkbox to select if you want to run virtualbox or not. This checkbox is gray and not correctly themed. This should not be gray. Looks a bit ugly.
