| #3783 | fixed | OSX Bridged Networking unreliable due to incorrect MTU setting! => Fixed in SVN | ||
| Description |
I setup a clean install of XP SP2 on VirtualBox on my new MacPro. I setup the network adapter (Intel Pro 1000 T Server) with Bridged mode. After getting into XP, I was getting an IP address from my router and a few websites would load, but others would not. For example google.com was OK but mozilla.com and microsoft.com would not load. Some experimenting pointed to an MTU issue. I determined this WAS due to the MTU setting. My testing showed that when using Bridged Mode and performing "ping -f" to my home network router, I could see that setting the ping packet size (-l flag) larger than 1467 caused the packets to timeout, and a size over 1472 to get the expected "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set." When using an adaptor in NAT mode, this problem does not occur, and pings up to 1472 in size are allowed as expected. Setting the MTU lower in Windows XP registry and rebooting provides a workaround, and allows all websites and pages to load OK again. It's clear something about using Bridged mode is "padding" the packets with an additional 4 or 5 bits of data... For reference Windows XP's registry key for MTU size: System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\[Adapter ID]] Value Name: MTU Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) |

| #3785 | fixed | [Regression] Access denied when saving in Visual C++ in shared folders => Fixed in SVN | ||
| Description |
I have recently upgraded from version 2.1.4 to version 2.2.0. [ Host is Ubuntu Linux 64bits 8.04, Guest is Windows XP ]. While everything was working fine under previous version, I have encountered an issue in using Visual C++ Express 2008 in a project on a shared folder. I cannot save modifications in files. Note that I can however edit the files and save them with Wordpad. Visual C++ however tells me to save my file elsewhere or replies that "Access denied". |

| #3787 | fixed | VM 2.2.0 freezes during start (USB attach) => Fixed in SVN | ||
| Description |
After the upgrade from Virtualbox 2.1 to 2.2 I clicked on the start button. I was asked to click away the confirmation dialog to accept some new config file format. After that the guest (XP) booted fine. The USB device (a CD/DVD drive) was accessible as expected. New guest additions were not installed. I stopped XP: No error message. Next I clicked on the start button again. I got a black window for the virtual machine, but it did not boot. Even the new welcome screen was not shown. Both GUI and virtual machine windows were not refreshed, either. I could delete both windows using the X window manager, but the processes did not terminate. I could kill them with kill(1). Next I disabled USB support and tried again: The virtual machine did boot. Shutdown, enable USB, startup: The virtual machine got frozen. Please note that on the very first run after the upgrade the USB support seemed to work fine. Attached you can find the log files of these sessions. |
