| #20 | wontfix | [feature-request] Win9x (95/98/98SE/Me) support as Guest OS | ||
| Description |
Please support Win9x as a guestOS (primarily 98 is needed). Plz do so for the folowing reasons: a) Those OSes are still widely used b) Virtualization software (such as this) is heavily used for software QA purposes of backward-compatibility. Win9x is a supported platform for large number of software (both commercial and OSS), so it cut costs considerably. This is very big market that both VMware and VirtualPC supports well. c) It's still needed by legacy software that cannot be run on newer OSes that isn't updated anymore. d) For Windows-networks simulation, Win9x has lower memory and CPU requirements. This also helps if you have not-so-powerful host. e) help desks - consumer support for Win9x is still a requirement for many corporations and ISPs. Virtualization really helps here. Currently, it installs, but fails to run, in both normal and safe modes it crashes on first boot. I would like to see this issues resolved, and later see Guest OS integration for Win9x. |

| #21 | worksforme | Host OS starvation on Windows XP Host | ||
| Description |
In some situations, VirtualBOX uses 100% I/O and CPU power from Host, causing a starvation on the Host OS and making it non-responsive. Software: Windows XP Pro SP2 Eng (no additional patches), VirtualBox 1.3.2 Full. Can SLOW down Windows XP host significantly. I recommend: Autostart CPU Priority must be lowered to "low" instead of "normal". NOTE: The above helps solve the CPU starvation, but not the I/O starvation which really causes a total halt on the Host system. (intensive RAM/CD-ROM/Network/HDD usage) Any ideas to solve I/O starvation ? |

| #22 | fixed | Feature request: GUI option for shared folder mapping | ||
| Description |
First of all, I think there should be an option for automatic shared folder addition to the guest OS at the GUI menu. Currently I have to manually add it from the console frontend. I mapped the shared folder to 'Z' drive. After having saved the guest OS state, I resumed it after somewhile and tried to access the shared folder. Then an error message popped up. An error occurred while reconecting Z to \vboxsvr\vmshare VirtualBox Shared Folders : The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored. This always happes when I save and resume the state of Guest OS. Is this a bug or did I misconfigure it? The Host OS is Windows Vista and the guest OS is Windows 2003 Server. |
