#12225 fixed NAT cable_connected ignored when router goes down => Fixed in SVN Socratis
Description

My setup is as follows:

Guest (any) w/ 4 net adapters (Host, Internal, Bridged, NAT) --> Host OSX 10.6.8 (10.0.0.101) --> TimeCapsule (10.0.0.1, 192.168.2.2) --> ISP_Device (192.168.2.1)

  • Host: (Cable connected) 192.168.100.x
  • Internal: (Cable connected) 192.168.50.x
  • Bridged: (Cable DISconnected)
  • NAT: (Cable DISconnected) (set to get 10.x.x.x address once connected, usually 10.0.5.15)

Here's the deal; after upgrading to 4.3.x, if my ISP_Device goes down (power, ADSL connection) and comes up again, NAT connects to the internet! The preferences still say "Cable not connected" but I do have an IP address and can ping/connect at will to anything on the Internet. Checking/unchecking the "Cable connected" checkbox does disconnect NAT.

This could very well be a major security hole, that is why I put the priority to Critical.

#12536 obsolete Windows XP slow with IOAPIC enabled Socratis
Description

There have been a lot of anecdotal rumors about Windows XP slow performance, but as far as I know not a ticket.

In the last one it was suggested to open one, so here it goes, along with some measurements. The measurement is from starting the machine till login prompt. See attached movies for 4.3.6, timer for 4.2.20. New APIC is the default for WinXP. Old APIC is the partial fix provided at https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58445 (which BTW drops the number of CPUs from <any> down to 1).

  • VBox 4.3.6, with new APIC: 27 sec
  • VBox 4.3.6, with old APIC: 11 sec
  • VBox 4.2.20, with new APIC: 23 sec
  • VBox 4.2.20, with old APIC: 9 sec

I tried 4.1.18, but it wouldn't let me boot the VM (too modern for it I guess).

#12818 fixed OSX 10.5 client boots in 4.3.6 not in 4.3.8 Socratis
Description

I have several clients from 10.5 to 10.9. After upgrading to 4.3.8 (from 4.3.6) none would boot. The workaround from #12736 fixed all except 10.5 which hangs at boot. I have 10.6.8 as a host. Attaching logs from 4.3.6, 4.3.8, boot screen with 4.3.8.
