#16159 fixed Boot failed. EFI DVD/CDROM - message before a successful boot Leonid Dorogin
Description

VirtualBox 5.1.8 with the extension pack installed on macOS Sierra 10.12.1 host. The guest machine is Arch Linux with the standard kernel, and systemd EFI bootloader. /EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI is present on the EFI partition. EFI firmware is enabled in the VM.

Before a successful boot, the following message is shown shortly: "Boot failed. EFI DVD/CDROM"

Changing boot order and disabling booting from optical drive have no effect on this.

#16156 fixed VirtualBox doesn't start under Windows 10 Preview Build 14959 Bruce Mohler
Description

When I start VirtualBox (5.1.4 or 5.1.6) on Windows 10 Preview Build 14959, nothing appears. This has been the case for the last several preview builds. When I check the Windows Application Log, I see that it "faulted". I uninstalled 5.1.6 and re-installed 5.1.4 to see if it were version specific.

What I see from the General tab is:

Faulting application name: VirtualBox.exe, version: 5.1.4.10228, time stamp: 0x57b358f8 Faulting module name: VirtualBox.exe, version: 5.1.4.10228, time stamp: 0x57b358f8 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00000000000139bd Faulting process id: 0x1e18 Faulting application start time: 0x01d237c2f9ac653c Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VirtualBox.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VirtualBox.exe Report Id: b9c7e20f-d83d-4376-9bf4-05f2909f6595 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID:

What information can I provide you to assist diagnosing this problem?

#16155 fixed VirtualBox kernel module broken with Linux 4.9 (RC3) and VirtualBox 5.1.8 / 5.1.9 (nightly) aplocher
Description

Attached is the vbox-install.log

When installing VirtualBox 5.1.8 or 5.1.9 on Linux Kernel 4.9 (RC3 - I think RC2, too), it comes back with an error:

Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox for Linux installation.............
VirtualBox Version 5.1.9 r111724 (2016-11-03T17:15:53Z) installer
Installing VirtualBox to /opt/VirtualBox
Python found: python, installing bindings...
vboxdrv.sh: failed: Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong.

There were problems setting up VirtualBox. To re-start the set-up process, run
  /sbin/vboxconfig
as root.

VirtualBox has been installed successfully.

You will find useful information about using VirtualBox in the user manual
  /opt/VirtualBox/UserManual.pdf
and in the user FAQ
  http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/User_FAQ

We hope that you enjoy using VirtualBox.

The installation appears to work, but when attempting to boot a VM, I receive the following:

Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing

'/sbin/vboxconfig'

as root.

where: suplibOsInit what: 3 VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED (-1908) - The support driver is not installed. On linux, open returned ENOENT.

This seems to be related to the following update to the Linux Kernel in 4.9, which caused the argument signature to change for "get_user_pages_remote":
