#2407 obsolete Driver issue with CD/DVD passthrough with Windows host and windows guest Kevin Shea
Description

I have a windows XP host and windows XP guest and have created a VM with a passthrough DVD writer.

When booting the VM I get the following sequence of events: 1) first boot - VBOX CDROM detected OK, everything works as expected including burning 2) second boot (after normal shutdown) - driver conflict on VBOX CDROM detected.

After uninstalling the driver and rebooting I end up back at stage 1 again, and so on. The same VM works perfectly and repeatedly when the host is linux (Ubuntu 8.04).

The specfic windows error is: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)". (nothing useful on MSDN - they helpfully suggest rebooting the PC...)

Happy for this to be a minor issue - my VM will be used primarily with the Ubuntu host and rarely used for burning disks with.

#2434 obsolete Changing the resolution of host shifts the full screen image of the guest Tej A. Shah
Description

Steps to recreate:

  1. Launch a VirtualBox guest with the addons enabled.
  1. Make the guest full screen and also the guest's resolution should be the same as the host.
  1. Launch an application on the host machine that changes the screen resolution on the host (so it changes the host's screen resolution). You must be able to do this without exiting full screen from Virtualbox. I encountered this problem by having this application launched remotely. Also, this application made the screen resolution lower than it was previously.
  1. After this application is done, it will put the screen resolution back as it used to be. Then, VirtualBox will show up but shifted to the bottom right a good number of pixels (making a black blank area). The work around is to hit "Host+F" twice which will allow Virtualbox to properly put the full screen where it should be.

Other potentially useful information:

  • Running WinXP as host, guest is CentOS 4.7
  • The app that is causing this issue is an OpenGL app
  • Running on a Geforce 7800 with latest driver
  • Happens every time

Feel free to ask for more information.

#2436 obsolete Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 install hangs Szabo Robert
Description

Hi, During Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 installation -when windows installer reports 13 minutes left (registering components phase) - than VirtualBox send two line in the log: 00:14:29.112 PIT: mode=2 count=0x4ad (1197) - 996.81 Hz (ch=0) 00:14:29.186 PIT: mode=2 count=0x2ead (11949) - 99.85 Hz (ch=0)

and the installation seems to hang up. The windows installer doesn't report any error, even not recognise the problem, but the remaining time sign not decreased...

I tried with different disk and memory settings, but install never went over the '13 minuts left state'.

Regards, Robert
