#9938 obsolete RPM based guests have real issues with Gnome3 if the guest has more than one processor. Perry G
Description

I have been trying to track down the issue of not being able to use Gnome3 in an RPM guest.

If I install and select to use SMP (2 processors) the guest will refuse to load the Gnome3 DT at least 8 out of 10 tries. Stating there is a problem and you need to logout and try again. No matter what I do it fails except setting the processor count to (1) It then loads each and every time. Turning off 3D acceleration allows me to use SMP (2 processors) and also works every time but in fall-back mode (no Gnome3).

Needless to say this really cuts down on the guests speed and compiling time more than doubles. This does not seem to be the case with Debian based guests though as I can run with (2) processors and Gnome3 works as intended.

I have removed the openSUSE (included) guest additions and installed the latest VirtualBox guest additions but this does not seem to make a difference.

Host is Ubuntu 11.10 Kernel 3.0.0-13-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 2 13:27:26 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Guest is openSUSE 12.4 Kernel 3.1.0-1.2-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 3 14:45:45 UTC 2011 (187dde0) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I am also including (2) log files one works (1 processor) and one does not work (2 processor) but from what I see in the logs there is no indication that VirtualBox is unhappy with anything.

#9939 obsolete VBoxManage guestcontrol exec path issue Chris Scott
Description

When using the following command in VBoxManage:

VBoxManage guestcontrol "Machine Name" exec --image "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" --username "User" --password "password" "/s" "/o" "/n" "C:\users\user\desktop\file.pdf"

Or if using any other program with a Long Name in either the directory or executable your first get an error that the application can not open the file requested. If you click on the error then the application will open the file correctly. However, if you install the application in a directory without a long name "8 characters or less and no spaces" then it works perfectly like below:

VBoxManage guestcontrol "Machine Name" exec --image "C:\Adobe\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" --username "User" --password "password" "/s" "/o" "/n" "C:\users\user\desktop\file.pdf"

#9946 obsolete Guest does not work when 3D is activated Robert McGimpsey
Description

Host is Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit, service pack2 Attempting to run Ubuntu 11.10 (Linux) guest with 3D. Works when 3D is not activated, but either fails or hangs when 3D is activated through the VirtualBox interface.

Have attached zip file that contains Word document and VirtualBox logs.

In Word document have added screen shots concerning the Intel 3D software on the host computer. It is my understanding that VirtualBox tunnels 3D functions to the guest from the host machine.

The Linux kernal is 3.0.0.12-generic
