#9653 obsolete High latency with USB video capture devices Donuts
Description

Host: Xubuntu 9.10 x86. Guest: Windows XP SP3

Hi,

I've been trying to use several USB video capture devices in a Windows XP SP3 guest, e.g. a Pinnacle PCTV USB2 which uses an Empia EM28xx chip.

When used natively in both Linux and Windows, there is very little latency between the input video and what is shown on screen (using e.g. tvtime in Linux or DScaler in Windows). So for example, video games are still very playable.

When used in a VirtualBox guest however, latency is much higher. At least 1-2 seconds, making interactive use with a game console unusable. Is that a defect which could be fixed, or a problem intrinsic to how VirtualBox captures USB devices?

Some other capture devices (e.g. one based on Trident TV Master chip) don't show video at all in the Windows guest; I just got a black window and crackling audio with that. Maybe that's due to the XP driver not working with the increased USB latency?

#9654 obsolete Implementing Shared Folders breaks network connection for Guest OS (Windows 7) Charles Allen
Description

Operating VirtualBox in Solaris 10, update 9, with Windows 7 SP1 as the Guest OS (guest additions are installed). When creating a shared folder to the Guest OS, all network connectivity is lost and does not return with the removal of the shared folder. Further, a simple reboot of the Guest OS will not fix the problem. Must completely shutdown Guest OS and restart before connectivity is restored. Even though network connectivity is lost, access to the shared folder is functional.

We are operating the Guest OS with a bridged adapter. Do not experience the problem when using a NAT network.

#9660 obsolete Switching to VirtualBox Ubuntu machine only shows some part of screen (rendering problem) Florin
Description

All the times I use the host machine and want to go back to the virtual machine (Ubuntu in full screen), the screen is a combination of host desktop&open_windows and a part (what is dynamic) of the virtual machine screen. See the attached screenshot as an example.

To repaint the screen, I must click on any running program's status bar.
