| #8901 | invalid | Cannot install VirtualBox-4.0.6 Guest Additions into Kubuntu-11.04_amd64 running under CentOS-5.6 | ||
| Description |
I have been trying to install Kubuntu-11.04_amd64 onto a CentOS-5.6 system using VirtualBox-4.0.6. The Kubuntu installation,itself, is successful However when I try to install the Guest Additions, the VM drops into command line mode. Restarting has no effect and trying to start the graphical mode using the "startx" command produces the error message: "Fatal server error: no screens found". I have repeated the process with several minor variations with the same result. I was able to create another version Kubuntu-11.04_amd64 on a Vista computer system and successfully install the Guest Additions with complete graphics capability. I was able to transfer the VM from the Windows computer to the CentOS system and am to run it in graphics mode. I tried several different search topics without finding any reference to the type of problem that I have encountered. I could not find any "VBox.log" files, either in the ".VirtualBox" or "/var/log/vbox" directories. |
