| #13329 | obsolete | Can't use USB wireless adapter in guest | ||
| Description |
I have recently been having trouble getting my USB wireless nic (TP-Link WN722N with ath9k chipset) to work with VMs on my desktop computer (Win 8.1 x64, MSI motherboard Intel H87). I believe it worked a few months ago, but I'm not sure what changed since then. The weird thing is, it has always worked just fine on my laptop (plug it in, select it in devices, and it immediately shows up in the guest's ifconfig). I have tried to make sure they are both on the same drivers, but there are so many different ones and none seem to work. It's not the VM, because I'm using the exact same vdi on both computers and it doesn't change anything. It shows up under lsusb (in the guest) with the correct output, but syslog reveals some errors downloading the firmware. It's not my computer either, VMware workstation handles the same thing with no sweat. |

I realize that you need a separate vnic for each VM you're running, but if I even try to start a single VM, I get dave@hoss:~# zlogin vbox VBoxHeadless --startvm '"Windows 2003 Server"' en_US.UTF-8: unknown locale VirtualBox Headless Interface 3.0.8 (C) 2008-2009 Sun Microsystems, Inc. Unknown error creating VM (VERR_INTNET_FLT_IF_FAILED) This error goes away if I set nic1 to use NAT. See also related reports in #3866 |
