| #7272 | obsolete | Failed to create a new Ubuntu 10.04 guest virtual machine | ||
| Description |
What steps will reproduce the problem? 1.Create an Ubuntu 10.04 VM on an external disk drive in Windows XP host(Dell Latitude D630 laptop PC). I was using an external drive with FAT32 formatting. 2.Delete the VM and delete the disk drive using Virtual Media Manager. 3.Remove the external disk drive.

What do you see instead? Could not create a directory 'G:\Ubuntu\Ubuntu 32 bit version\Ubuntu1' to save the settings file (VERR_PATH_NOT_FOUND). Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Machine Interface: IMachine {6d9212cb-a5c0-48b7-bbc1-3fa2ba2ee6d2} Callee: IVirtualBox {3f36e024-7fed-4f20-a02c-9158a82b44e6} Failed to create a new virtual machine Ubuntu1. This is repeatable. In fact, I cannot create a VM because this occurs every time I try unless I re-connect the external disk drive. I discovered this error condition by accident when I created a VM on an external disk drive, and then noticed that the external disk drive had FAT32 formatting. I wanted to recreate the VM on my local (C:) drive which has NTFS formatting. I have removed all VM files from the external disk drive, removed the external disk drive, uninstalled VirtualBox, rebooted the PC, reinstalled VirtualBox. I was hoping that this would clear any values in memory variables. I'm guessing that the path information to the external drive is stored in a register. The solution is probably to remove or change the value in one or more registers assigned by the installation process. |
