#17787 invalid VirtualBox gives error when starting guest on certain computers. sdurranc
Description

05/24/2018 (Thursday)

I have two Acer Aspire One AOA150’s and one Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks. The two desktops are a Compaq with PCI Express PCIEX16 motherboard and a home build one with a Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H-A motherboard. All 5 computers have Linux Mint 18.3 operating system with all updates and latest VirtualBox program. Four have 160GB hard drives and 1GB memory (not much, but has been working). The home build desktop has 1TB drive and 8GB memory. I’ve been “duplicating/backing up” the computer setups by using Rsync program normally and everything has always worked for years … That is until now with a VirtualBox Windows 7 Ultimate guest program.

I've tried duplicating the VirtualBox VM by using copy, rsync, and export/import. These seem to still work on the three netbooks, and at least rsync used to work on the desktops. Now with the two desktops, after initially getting the message below, I get the message "RecEnv.exe - Application Error The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000006). Click OK to close the application.". I’ve even tried reinstalling the VirtualBox program and trying all the various Windows recovery options to no avail.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give.

#17783 fixed NS_ERROR_ABORT on cue/bin CD image created with Isobuster (fixed in svn) pure_joy
Description

I have CD image in .cue/.bin format containing 1 data track and 12 cd audio tracks created with IsoBuster . This image successfully mounts with Alcohol 52% cd drive emulation software, but gives NS_ERROR_ABORT (0x80004004) error when trying to use it as CD image in Virtualbox.

(After this error message Virtualbox UI becomes messed up but that's another issue I think)

Virtualbox 5.2.12, MacOS 10.13.4

Attaching CD.cue, associated CD.bin is 800206848 bytes and can be simulated by creating sparse file filled with zeroes:

dd if=/dev/zero of=CD.bin bs=1 count=0 seek=800206848
#17779 duplicate arrow keys don't correctly repeat pw2
Description

I'm using a very updated version of Ubuntu 16.04 as the host machine

I just noticed this as a problem with Virtualbox 5.2.12

What happens is that I type in a long string of characters (80 or more) in an application text field or even in Notepad.exe. I then _hold down_ a left or right arrow key to move the cursor -- the problem is that the cursor will get stuck every 30 or so characters and then continue -- sometimes in sets a selection-marker (starts highlighting text) -- the selection-marker is sometimes hard to get rid of

CTRL-A doesn't select all characters

Visible keyboard characters seem to repeat fine when the key is held down. It is mainly the arrow-keys that are failing (when held down) in Windows guests.

This happens in Windows XP and Windows 7 guest machines

It looks like the shift-key is also not working correctly as numbers are not possible to type and after trying to type a few numbers, a new problem happens: only caps-lock can be used to choose upper or lowercase letters (shift doesn't work for that)

I tried an older version of Virtualbox (5.2.2) in Ubuntu 16.04 with Windows guests and it didn't have this problem

(there aren't any USB filters defined)

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 guests and those work ok in Virtualbox 5.2.12 in an Ubuntu 16.04 host.

Thanks for looking into this one!
