#8825 duplicate Virtual machines hang if PAE enabled Tom Francart
Description

After an upgrade from Virtualbox 3.2 to 4.0.6, Windows guests hung shortly after starting up. This happened both for Windows 7 (at the point where the moving windows startup logo should have appeared) and for Windows XP (after showing the desktop).

This problem went away when I disabled "Enable PAE/NX"

Host is Ubuntu Natty (all packages up to date on 2 May, kernel 2.6.38-8-generic-pae)

The following error message was shown in the system logs:

#1803 fixed Host key set to Application key is being displayed as <key 93> Tomer Shalev
Description

When setting the host key to Application key (usually between right-alt and right-ctrl), it is being displayed as "Application" in the 'Virtual Preferences' -> 'Input' dialog box. When closing that dialog and re-opening it, it is being displayed as <key_93>. Also in the virtual machine's screen, in the bottom-right corner, it is being displayed as <key_93>.

The key itself works as intended, so it is only a GUI issue.

#1804 wontfix Not possible to change machine from VirtualBox main window while the machine is running Tomer Shalev
Description

When the machine is running it is possible to do many changes to it, such as:

  • Mount/unmount CD/DVD drive/image
  • Mount/unmount floppy
  • Add/remove shared folders
  • Toggle remote display state

If would be nice to have these control capabilities available from the application's main window. The novice user gets the impression that in order to do such operations to the machine he must shut it down first, then change it, and turn it on again.

It happened to me while installing the guest OS, that I had to mount a CD image, and I couldn't figure out that it was possible while the machine was running. I turned it off, mount the image, then turn it back on. It was very frustrating, and I thought to myself VMware is much better...'.
