Description

VirtualBox on OSX host does not replace $VBOX_USER_HOME/compreg.dat when it should.

On Linux hosts, if compreg.dat has OSX's libraries listed, it replaces it with a new compreg.dat that will work on the local system.

On OSX hosts, it dies with the error

Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object. The application will now terminate.

Host machine was x64 Windows 7, guest was x86 Windows 7 using a USB smart card reader connected to the host.

Description
  1. When you uninstall VirtualBox, the vboxdrv.sys driver is not uninstalled and the file remains in the c:\windows\system32\drivers\ folder.
  2. Sometimes Vista fails to boot due vboxdrv.sys.
