#529 fixed Bi-directional cut-and-paste breaks Ubuntu host clipboard -> should be fixed in 1.4.2 zerohalo
Description

I have an Ubuntu Feisty host, running WinXP guest.

Turning on bi-directional cut-and-paste breaks the Ubuntu host clipboard completely, for all applications. Clipboard contents are corrupted or changed into dots when pasted.

Changing the VB cut-and-paste setting to "host to guest" fixes the problem.

#780 fixed Bidirecional Shared Clipboard 1.5.51 Fabio Zendhi Nagao
Description

First of all, THANKS A LOT FOR THIS PIECE OF GOLD!

Well, I've compiled the 1.5.51 from the trunk 'cause I belived that the bugs of 1.5.0 was already fixed. I'm using a Ubuntu 7.04 with a i386-server-kernel and the problems with the 1.5.0 was:

B-1. Shared Clipboard not working between host (Ubuntu 7.04) and guest (Windows 2003) when guest is working Remote Desktop Connection.

B-2. " and ' not working on the guest

As we can see in the forum, both problems should be fixed in 1.5.2. Bug B-2 is OK, but for my surprise B-1 was only partial solved. I still get ŸŸ in some cases. To reproduce the error follow these steps:

  1. Open a text editor in host and write: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog - HOST."
  1. Copy it to the clipboard.
  1. Open a text editor in the guest and paste the Clipboard content. (The text should be fine)
    1. Open a RDC in the guest and in the RDC Client open a text editor and paste the Clipboard content. This should appear: "ŸŸquick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog - HOST."
      1. Paste again the Clipboard in the guest text editor and you still have the: "ŸŸquick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog - HOST." in the Clipboard, well it still here in the host, since I'm pasting here xP

Other combinations using this environment (Host, Guest, RDC in the Guest), like copying in the RDC and pasting in host gives similar errors.

One more thing: B-3. The bridge i'd working in 1.5.0 built as described in the UsersManual.pdf is no longer working with the 1.5.51, but NAT is ok.

Hope it helps you to keep doing this amazing job and, again, THANK YOU A LOT!

#6150 duplicate Bidirectional Clipboard copy stops working eventually, Win client to Fedora host, then both ways. -> duplicate of #5266 quantsuff
Description

This is similar in symptoms to ticket #5266, except here, host is Linux and Guest is Windows

VirtualBox 3.1.2 r56127

Host: Fedora 12 64-bit - 2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Jan 18 19:52:07 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Guest: Windows7 32-bit (single guest)

Guest additions are installed and guest rebooted afterword. Shared clipboard copies work in both directions, the after a random number of hours, guest-to-host copying will fail, and sometimes copying both ways will fail

Rebooting guest always fixes it for a while, but is impractical as an ongoing solution.

This seems to be a known bug with Windows Host and linux client, but I don't see many bugs or posts about the other way around.

Attempted to restart the service in Windows 7 but with no improvement. Should I be restarting something in Fedora?

What logs can I provide and from which host?

-------

Steps attempted inside Windows client: Recently when guest-to-host failed again I tried restarting VirtualBox Guest Additions Service (system32\VBoxService.exe)

-Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools -Services -Highlight VirtualBox Guest Additions Service -- choices are Stop the Service or Restart the Service

Click on either. You get this shutdown timeout message:

"Windows could not stop the VirtualBox Guest Additions Service service on Local Computer Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

Now Service Manager shows it as having no Status (not running) and your only option is now Start the Service

Click Start the service. It appears to start, but guest-to-host clipboard is still broken.
