Ticket Resolution Summary Owner Reporter
#2434 obsolete Changing the resolution of host shifts the full screen image of the guest Tej A. Shah
Description

Steps to recreate:

  1. Launch a VirtualBox guest with the addons enabled.
  1. Make the guest full screen and also the guest's resolution should be the same as the host.
  1. Launch an application on the host machine that changes the screen resolution on the host (so it changes the host's screen resolution). You must be able to do this without exiting full screen from Virtualbox. I encountered this problem by having this application launched remotely. Also, this application made the screen resolution lower than it was previously.
  1. After this application is done, it will put the screen resolution back as it used to be. Then, VirtualBox will show up but shifted to the bottom right a good number of pixels (making a black blank area). The work around is to hit "Host+F" twice which will allow Virtualbox to properly put the full screen where it should be.

Other potentially useful information:

  • Running WinXP as host, guest is CentOS 4.7
  • The app that is causing this issue is an OpenGL app
  • Running on a Geforce 7800 with latest driver
  • Happens every time

Feel free to ask for more information.

#3315 fixed Adding Guest additions to CentOS 4.7 makes X unusable -> fixed in SVN Tej A. Shah
Description

Running the Linux Kernel 2.6.9-78 with all of the latest updates for CentOS 4.7

It seems to work just fine until I installed the "Guest Additions". After the reboot, the screen looks rather funky (please see attached images). It seems that I can interact with the screen, but the display is all jumbled up and its more or less impossible for me to do anything.

However, if I were to switch to a terminal (as in, hit Ctrl+Alt+F1), it screen looks just fine. Therefore, I think its just a problem with X.

#10503 fixed vrdp + rdesktop missing screen updates tschoenemann
Description

Since Virtualbox 4.0 i see a strange rdp bug, which didnt exists in Virtualbox 3.2
It seems that screen updates which occur while your vm window is hidden (for example minimized or you switched to another desktop) are not applied when you restore the vm window.

Example to reproduce:
Start a VM of your choice with VBoxHeadless, open a terminal window.
Now you need a commandline program which needs some time to finish. start it, minimize your vm window, restore the window after the time you guess the execution of the program finished.
Now you see that the output of that program in your terminal window is garabage. You need to click inside or press enter to get the screen finally updated.

I made my test with a short script:

echo "START"
sleep 2
echo "garbage garbage"

During the "sleep 2" you have to minimize the vm window.

This missing update also is to be seen with gui applications.

I tested with different guests (win,os2,linux) and hosts (sol10, sol11) and found out that this error *only* disappears if you downgrade to virtualbox 3.2

I used the solaris11-rdesktop , the opencsw rdesktop and the rdesktop-vrdp which comes with Virtualbox.

If you use the VirtualBox GUI or VBoxSDL this does NOT happen, so its the VRDP + rdesktop combination.
