#7272 obsolete Failed to create a new Ubuntu 10.04 guest virtual machine GaryLake1
Description

What steps will reproduce the problem? 1.Create an Ubuntu 10.04 VM on an external disk drive in Windows XP host(Dell Latitude D630 laptop PC). I was using an external drive with FAT32 formatting. 2.Delete the VM and delete the disk drive using Virtual Media Manager. 3.Remove the external disk drive.

  1. Start VirtualBox and recreate the virtual machine using the local disk drive. The failure will occur when using the Virtual Disk Wizard.
  2. Select the folder button to specify a location for the disk drive file - the process will hang (e.g. task manager reports that the task is not responding), or alternatively,

accept the default folder path in which case the error noted below will occur.

Could not create a directory 'G:\Ubuntu\Ubuntu 32 bit version\Ubuntu1' to save the settings file (VERR_PATH_NOT_FOUND). Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Machine Interface: IMachine {6d9212cb-a5c0-48b7-bbc1-3fa2ba2ee6d2} Callee: IVirtualBox {3f36e024-7fed-4f20-a02c-9158a82b44e6}

What is the expected output?

  1. The Virtual Disk Wizard folder button will open a file browser that will let the user specify a location for the virtual disk drive file on the local (C:) drive, or if accepting the default location, the Virtual Disk Wizard will create a <VM name>.vdi file in the default path.

What do you see instead? Could not create a directory 'G:\Ubuntu\Ubuntu 32 bit version\Ubuntu1' to save the settings file (VERR_PATH_NOT_FOUND). Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Machine Interface: IMachine {6d9212cb-a5c0-48b7-bbc1-3fa2ba2ee6d2} Callee: IVirtualBox {3f36e024-7fed-4f20-a02c-9158a82b44e6}

Failed to create a new virtual machine Ubuntu1.

This is repeatable. In fact, I cannot create a VM because this occurs every time I try unless I re-connect the external disk drive.

I discovered this error condition by accident when I created a VM on an external disk drive, and then noticed that the external disk drive had FAT32 formatting. I wanted to recreate the VM on my local (C:) drive which has NTFS formatting. I have removed all VM files from the external disk drive, removed the external disk drive, uninstalled VirtualBox, rebooted the PC, reinstalled VirtualBox. I was hoping that this would clear any values in memory variables.

I'm guessing that the path information to the external drive is stored in a register. The solution is probably to remove or change the value in one or more registers assigned by the installation process.

#7275 obsolete Error starting after install: REGDB_E_IIDNOTREG (0x80040155) IcyT
Description

After installation, starting VirtualBox shows the following error:

Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object
The application will now terminate

Callee RC: REGDB_E_IIDNOTREG (0x80040155)

I already tried:

  • Registry cleaning
  • Uninstall, reboot, install
  • Starting VBoxSVC.exe in command prompt --> no errors
  • Reregistering several dlls

I tried version 3.1.0 earlier and it showed the same error. After waiting some time I tried 3.2.6 now, but the error still exists.

#7276 obsolete VRDP session is blank on connection Geoff Nordli
Description

When I re-connect to a VRDP session sometimes the screen remains blank.

VBox 3.2.6 Host: Linux Ubuntu 10.10 Server

In the log I can see the successful connection with access granted.

When I sniff the network I see traffic.

I tried disabling the bitmap caching in the rdp client.

I am not using 2D or 3D accel in the guests.

thanks,

Geoff
