#1076 fixed error message not helpful when machine description file was opened with newer release of VBox ugemkow
Description

I created a VM with 1.5.0 and later opened this VM with 1.5.4. When trying to open this vm with 1.5.0 again, an error message is printed and the start fails because 1.5.4 has added tags to the machine description which the old release does not understand. This has two aspects IMHO:

  • It should IMHO be possible to exchange VMs in the same release (1.5.x) series without an error in case of regressions
  • The printed error message is rather long but not very helpful. At least the tag on which the reading fails, should be printed.
#1083 fixed Assertion failure PDMDevice.cpp(1920) ugemkow
Description

During - in our opinion - normal operation, VBox produced an assertion failure (see attached log file).

Host is Fedora 7 with a vanilla kernel, Guest is Windows XP with a prerelease of SP3 installed.

VBox is OSE 1.5.4, compiled on FC7. The failure is not (simple) reproducible

#1087 fixed Varying screen resolution not handled well (may be related to xrandr 1.2) ugemkow
Description

We are using VBox OSE on Fedora 7 as host, Windows XP as guest with guest additions. We added randr-1.2 enabled drivers to Fedora 7.

When using VBox on systems with varying screen resolution (Notebooks with internal panel / external display), there are some problems:

  • When starting VBox when the resolution is high (i.e 1600x1200), stopping it and later restarting it when the system has a lower resolution (i.e. 1400x1050), VBOX tries to restore the greater resolution and fails. It then displays scroll bars which are not moveable. Minimizing the window and restoring it makes VBox usable again.
  • When VBox is in full screen mode with the higher resolution, stopped and restarted when the system has a lower resolution, this fails completely and in some cases even crashes the X server (which is also a X/driver bug of course).
