#5637 fixed VBoxManage clonehd is very slow when cloning empty VDI => fixed in SVN/3.2.6 Donuts
Description

Hi,

VBoxManage is very slow when cloning an empty VDI file. For example, try this:

VBoxManage createhd --filename test.vdi --size 20480 VBoxManage clonehd test.vdi test_cloned.vdi

That maxes out my 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo for about 20 seconds. (Ubuntu 9.10 x86 host)

#5638 fixed VBoxManage clonehd should preserve extra alignment/padding in the new VDI file Donuts
Description

Hi,

The VDI file format allows padding to be present in order that disk data may be appropriately aligned. VirtualBox does not currently support creating VDI files with user-specified padding, but such files can be created manually. (See http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25336 for example.)

When using VBoxManage clonehd to clone a VDI which has been padded in that way, the extra padding is removed from the cloned VDI. It would be useful if VBoxManage clonehd could preserve any extra padding that is present before the block map and/or image data in the VDI file.

#8993 obsolete Guru meditation running AROS live CD, Guru Meditation -2301 (VERR_REM_VIRTUAL_CPU_ERROR) Donuts
Description

Hi,

Host: Xubuntu 9.10 32-bit. Core 2 Duo T8100, VT-X enabled, VirtualBox 4.0.8.

Guest: AROS live CD from here.

After doing this:

  • Create a suitable VM to boot from the ISO image.
  • At the boot menu, press return to choose the default mode (VESA 1024x768).
  • After a few seconds the Wanderer screen will appear. Press menu-W or hold the right mouse button down and select Shell from the Wanderer menu at the top of the screen.
  • In the shell window which opens, type
      cd Extras/Demos [return]
      execute StartMesaDemos [return]

This happens:

  • Several demo windows will open. Initially the guest mouse pointer stops responding and the CPU is maxed out (but you can e.g. uncapture the mouse or press host-R to reboot). If you wait a while VirtualBox sometimes gives a guru meditation error.

The initial line in the log file reads:

Trying to execute code with memory type
   addr_code=0000000031002020 addend=0000000084d7e000
   at 0000000031002d00! (iHandlerMemType=0x38 iMMIOMemType=0x30
