#1031 invalid Include Ubuntu JeOS as a supported platform markba
Description

Ubuntu JeOS ("Just Enough OS") is a server version of Ubuntu, optimized (minimal number of packages, optimized kernel) for virtualisation: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/JeOS

JeoOS should be added as supported and even preferred over normal Ubuntu Server, due to this optimization.

In my case, Ubuntu JeOS installs and runs fine, in contrary to Ubuntu Server where the server-kernel has to be removed.

#1032 fixed New option for VBoxManage: startvm -type cli markba
Description

Currently, starting a vm is possible in two modes: gui (normal) and headless (type = vrdp). When I'm running a session of Ubuntu Server, there's no builtin VRDP-server. Nevertheless, when I want this session to run on the background, I *must* use the vrdp-option. Problem: this option is only available in the closed version of VB.

So, even when I don't use the vrdp-capabilities (because Ubuntu Server does not have them), I must use the closed version for using the vrdp-option.

I opt for adding a new option: "-type cli", possibly in the ose-version. In that way it's clear that I don't want the vrdp-option (which is nice anyway) whenever I'm using a non-Windows headless session.

#1033 obsolete Guest USB Audio fails running on windows host Mike P
Description

Problem: On Windows hosts, USB Audio devices are correctly identified and installed in the guest but there is no sound in either direction. This happens with Windows and Linux guests.

Description: When connecting the USB device (Plantronics headset in this case) one can see the USB activity light flashing when there should be sound, but nothing is heard. When using the volume control on the headset, the volume slider moves in the guest - so communication is definitively happening. All hardware is recognized and correctly identified/installed in the guest.

Host is Vista x64, attempted Win XP & Vista and openSUSE Linux (clean installs) with no success.

References: It appears this can be made to work on Linux hosts with some tweaking, but others have the same problem on win hosts. http://vbox.innotek.de/pipermail/vbox-users/2007-April/001441.html http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=3281 http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=3335 http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=3138

Logs: Three logs are attached with different scenarios:

  1. Attaching the device once XP is logged in
  2. Attaching the device before starting the guest machine
  3. Disabling EHCI (here the USB activity light flashes whenever there should be sound).
