#892 obsolete [SUGGEST] Integration with Xming Diego
Description

It will be great if you integrate Xming inside VirtualBox, and not only to comunicate with VirtualPCs, also with real computers or VirtualPCs in other separated servers. Features are almost the same, so one program to do both jobs will be great.

#894 fixed vbox consumes non-trivial CPU when guests are idle Paul Millar
Description

I have Debian sid, running on an Intel Pentium D dual-core 3GHz machine.

I'd like to run multiple guest-OSes: ScientificLinux [similar to CentOS] versions 3.0.x, 4.x and 5.x. I notice about 25%--50% (of a single-core) load on the host OS despite the guest OSes being idle.

With a single guest OS running, I noticed ~50% CPU usage (which linux load onto a single core). With two guest-OSes, the load is around 75% CPU (distributed between the two cores).

This is a problem as it limits the number of guest OSes that I can run comfortably.

If I attach strace to one of the guest OSes, I see many select()s timing-out followed by a call to gettimeofday(). This looks like a polling routine, which perhaps is responsible for host CPU consumption.

So, I guess the questions are:

  1. is this a known problem/issue?
  1. how (in general) does one investigate this class of problem? Would profiling the virtualbox code (using -pg/gprof) be of any use?

Cheers,

Paul

#895 worksforme restoring Snapshots Diego
Description

Host Windows XP Athlon 1700+ RAM 512Mb DDR333 Guest Windows XP

This happens when: A) Create Snapshot. Try to restore Snapshot for first time. ERROR Try to restore Snapshot for second time. NO ERROR

B) This error below (ocurred to me for first time, im kind of new with VB): Closing VM saving actual state. (There should be a "pause" Button on VirtualBox) Starting Saved state. Every time i try i get this error.

I was thinking that it could be the space in the directory name, so i renamed the dirs and files to WindowsTests, when i run VirtualBox i got an error about not finding "Windows Tests", so i renamed it back. And now i can restore the saved state. I tryed to reproduce this error again but i cant.

Seems to me like only happens when i dont use the VM for a couple of days. So mabe is a time related stuff.

Anyway, until now i can restore the VM without any other issue.

Failed to restore VM state from 'J:\Virtual\Windows Tests\Snapshots\{ba486b66-1b6b-4ca2-8cf0-ef3cefdf7411}.sav' (VERR_IO_GEN_FAILURE). VBox status code: -257 (VERR_IO_GEN_FAILURE).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Console Interface: IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}
