| #5467 | obsolete | USB hard drive problems | ||
| Description |
I added a comment to ticket #5092 with a similar issue under a Windows guest. I want to stress some USB devices work for me. I'm able to work with a Sandisk Cruzer flash drive in the same guest without problems. My issue is with a Western Digital external hard disk in a Rocketfish enclosure. VirtualBox initially captures the device then it becomes unavailable. It appears as if the initialization fails but I can't be sure. I didn't find much in my log file. I also observed VM shutdown problems (Kubuntu 9.10) if I kept the USB drive powered on during shutdown even though it was unavailable to the guest. My log file is attached to this ticket and #5092. |

| #5469 | obsolete | VirtualBox accesses host's USB webcam with VM's virtual USB controller disabled | ||
| Description |
As per title. Every time I start a VM my webcam is being accessed, as evidenced by a blue LED lighting up on the webcam. The LED stays lit for the complete duration of the VM session and switches off when the VM is powered off. I am running VirtualBox 3.0.10 on Windows 7 Professional x64. The guest is Ubuntu Linux 9.10 x86 but I do not think that it makes any difference since the webcam's LED lights up immediately after starting the VM, before the guest's code kicks in. The webcam in question is a Hercules/Guillemot Dualpix Exchange: http://www.hercules.com/us/webcam/bdd/p/21/hercules-dualpix-exchange/ Another piece of info which may be noteworthy is that I noticed the same behavior on and off with some past VirtualBox builds on a (then) Vista x64 host. For example, versions 3.0.8 and 3.0.6 did not exhibit this behavior, but some older builds did. I am attaching a log from a minimal run of the VM (boot, login screen, poweroff). |

| #5470 | obsolete | No access to subfolders on mounted USB Floppy | ||
| Description |
When specifying a USB Memory stick connected to the Host, when mounting it as a Floppy in the Guest, 2 things occur:
Host: Windows 7 Professional 64Bit Upgrade with all latest Windows updates applied Details: Using the Guest VM Menu "Devices" -> "Mount Floppy" -> "Host Drive H:", no errors are given. When accessing the device through the Guest Explorer.exe, accessing the root gives Read-Only access and when attempting to access all subdirectories (of which there are 6), the Guest Explorer.exe prompts to "Please insert a disk into drive A:". Attempting to use a Command Prompt, the DIR command shows sub directories as empty/no files found. The USB Memory stick remains under full control, read and write access, to the Host during this time with all subdirectories available. The USB memory stick has been tested and works correctly on several other machines, including a standard Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows XP Home SP3, Windows Vista Home SP2, and a Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 installation. Read, Write, and full directory access confirmed to work correctly. Attempting to mount the USB Memory stick as a USB device in the Guest produces an error of: VirtualBox - Error
Failed to attach the USB device USB Mass Storage Device [0100]
to the virtual machine Windows XP Professional 32Bit.

The USB Device is not in use. There are no explorer windows open on it, no Command Prompt accessing it, no Virus scans active, no open file handles to the device. I've tried with using a USB filter and without having any filters. I've tried after a reboot with and without the device connected during boot, with the device not being access by the Host after inserting device into USB port, tried different USB ports, all lead to the same error. Also, when the USB memory stick is mounted as a Floppy drive, the root directory and files of the memory stick are accessible as Read-only. I realize that the USB issue is likely to be a seperate bug, but I was giving all possible related information. |
