#6268 fixed Windows XP host is acting like the CTRL key is constantly being pressed Gary Cooper
Description

Been using VirtualBox for many months... maybe years. I usually upgrade a few weeks after an update comes out so that others get the chance to guinea pig; I'm a lazy sysad - in other words a good one 8) - & try to minimize my troubles in order to maximize my productivity.

Speaking of troubles, for at least 4 months or so the various versions of VB have had a weird bug where most of the time (I'd say about 70%) after using the guest OS for a few minutes to a few hours, my host OS's (Win XP SP3 Home, Pro & MCE, Vista - yes I've tried them all) start freaking out and acting as though I'm holding down the CTRL key, which I'm not.

The guest OS seems to be working fine though, whether Ubuntu, Windows XP or Vista. Usually I have Guest Additions installed but not always.

I've tried Googling the issue and came up with trouble ticket 3117, but it only applies to a glitch in Linux host OS - not Windows host OS. I also tried searching the forums but the search feature appears to be broken.

Sorry to lay this on y'all. You guyz (non-gender-specific) are doin' a great job and I hate to complain but this error puts a real damper on my productivity as I'm not able to use my host OS again without rebooting. I have to wait until my guest system's installing/updating/syspreping/etc. is finished and sometimes that can mean hours until I'm back up and running; yuck! Anyway, any assist would be apprish'd.

Peace...

#8779 obsolete USB-Disk not showing up in Windows 7 Guest on Ubuntu 10.10 64bit Michael Schwandt
Description

After the upgrade from 4.0.4 to 4.0.6 via Ubuntu's aptitude I can't access USB-Disks anymore, I tried it with two disks (3,5" and 2,5").

The mouse and keyboard wich are also connceted via USB work without problems, so do my USB-Stick and my iPhone. Only the USB-HDDs want show up in the Windows Guest.

When I connect the USB-Disks to the System everything looks okay, drivers got installed and Windows 7 tolds that the device is proper installed and ready for use. But when I open the Windows-Explorer there are no disk at all. The USB-Disk even shows up in the Device-Manager.

When I try to have a look in the Diskmanager-MMC the MMC opens but doesen't show the disks and the USB-Activity Icon in Virtualbox is not flashing but stays on the whole time.

The Diskmanerger-MMC stays grey until I disconnect the disk from the Guest via the USB-Icon or unplug the disk, then I see for a second the now disconnected USB-Disk and the System Disk. Then the USB-disk is gone and there is only the system disk to see.

There are no errors in the log file, as far as I can tell.

The right Extension Pack and Guest Additions are also installed.

A did an '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' and rebooted the hostsystem, but that didn't help either.

Log and screenshot are attached.

Best regards
Michael
