#4872 obsolete "FAST IO DISALLOWED" some access to DVD drive fails Andreas
Description

host: opensuse 11.1 guest: Windows XP SP3, patches up to date config: "Enable Passthrough" is enabled.

I am trying to run the game "Wiggles" to test the directX capabilities of VirtualBox 3.0.4. I was able to install the game. But it will not run. When tracing the events generated by the program with procmon (sysinternal tool) I see the following messages.

<event>

The program "Wiggles" tries to access the DVD drive but seems to be refused some operation. Attached is the logfile "Logfile.XML.gz". The logfile "VBox.log.gz" of VirtualBox is attached too. It indicates two cdrom related errors.

00:00:04.453 PIIX3 ATA: LUN#2: CD-ROM passthrough cmd=0x28 sense=2 ASC=0x3a ASCQ=0x1 VERR_DEV_IO_ERROR ... 00:05:04.678 PIIX3 ATA: LUN#2: CD-ROM passthrough cmd=0x5a sense=5 ASC=0x24 ASCQ=0x0 VERR_DEV_IO_ERROR ...

I do understand that the passthrough feature is fairly new and the incident report is just to notify of the occurred situation in the hope that it helps you to improve the VirtualBox, which is really an exceptional product.

#4882 obsolete WinXP will not boot in VB from Boot Camp partition Spike
Description

Employing the method of creating a virtual disk via the raw vmdk method to attempt to boot XP from my Boot Camp partition,
I execute the following:

  1. Unmount/eject the Boot Camp disk from the desktop.
  2. Change permissions to 777 on /dev/disk0*
  3. Execute in Terminal:

VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -rawdisk /dev/disk0 -filename XPraw.vmdk -partitions 1,3

  1. Import the disk into VB using Virtual Media Manager, then use it as the boot disk for a new virtual machine.
  2. Attempt to boot. The result is Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.
#4887 obsolete Graphical corruption and freeze in Windows 7 Guest steppres
Description

Windows 7 guest on any host OS using VirtualBox 3.0.4 will intermittently freeze and display graphical corruption onscreen. Resetting the VM will cause it BSOD during boot. The VM must be turned off and on again to regain operational status.
