#12841 obsolete VBox 4.3.8: MS Excel 2013 File Menu Virtual Box Crash Brian T. McKee
Description

This is a VMWare retargeted Windows 7 PRO 64 bit virtual machine, created by copying a vmware vmdk, creating a new virtualbox and then connecting the virtual box drive to the vmdk.

vmware utilities have been removed. There was a vmware share folder that was unmounted after the virtualbox was created.

The VM has Office 2013 installed (updated to latest to see if problem goes away, it didn't)

Its also running latest from MS update for Windows 7.

I created a new excel spread sheet, clicked on the File tab, and went to the "save" button. Hovering over it is enough to crash the VM which exits with no messages on the console.

/var/log/messages had this:

Mar 18 16:08:55 shanti kernel: [106274.596909] device eth0 entered promiscuous mode
Mar 18 16:09:57 shanti kernel: [106335.887059] traps: INTNET-RECV[12488] general protection ip:7f2868b57d50 sp:7f281a81fc78 error:0 in VBoxRT.so[7f2868b01000+17d000]
Mar 18 16:09:57 shanti kernel: [106336.014377] device eth0 left promiscuous mode
Mar 18 16:09:57 shanti kernel: [106336.031849] vboxnetflt: 0 out of 256 packets were not sent (directed to host)
Mar 18 16:10:01 shanti cron[12529]: (root) CMD (test -x /usr/sbin/run-crons && /usr/sbin/run-crons)

I suspect(ed) its trying to connect to network drives that I used to have mapped, but I removed them all after the first crash in an attempt to stop the crash from happening.

Host is Linux:

Linux shanti 3.10.5-gentoo #2 SMP PREEMPT Mon Dec 23 13:45:32 PST 2013 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3720QM CPU @ 2.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Any assistance would be appreciated. If you tell me how to run the VM with debugging turned on I can get a gdb backtrace for you. This failure happens every time I try to save my excel spread sheet.

Thanks.

#4617 obsolete Garbled and double speed input with usb microphone on xp pro sp3 32 bit Brian P. Barnes
Description

Host Asus p5q3 deluxe wifi mobo, lga 775, p45/ich10r chipset, Intel core 2 quad q9550, 2.83 ghz, 4gb ddr3 ATI R4850 512 MB video ubuntu 9.04 64 bit workstation, fully patched Plantronics cs50 usb headset

guest xp pro sp3 32 bit, fully patched. Zonealarm firewall, avira AV 1.6gb memory, 2 cores, vtx enabled, nested paging enabled, 16 gb vdi, 8 gb free pcnet-fast iii nat network, 2 shard folders all 3 host drivers, pulse, oss and alsa all tried.

Bug Microphone works perfectly on host, records high quality voice. When recording in xp guest, every other syllable is dropped out. Even slowly and clearly spoken recordings are nearly 100% indeciperable. Extremely choppy. Sounds as though it is being played back at 2x speed. Recording using Nero 7 ultra. Also, Dragon Naturally Speaking has 1% hit rate and can not be trained. Every word must be repeated ~15 times during aborted training. Hundreds of similar reports found in Google search on "virtualbox usb microphone xp" going back at least 3 years.

In xp -> control panel -> sound and audio -> sound recording, selecting cs50 produces nothing but static noise. Only intel integrated audio works at all.

The microphone works perfectly on xp/native and on host.

#9669 worksforme VirtualBox OSE 4.1.0+ hangs after upgrade from 4.0.8 BrokenGlass
Description

VirtualBox completely hangs after bios stage. I can't say where it crashes, but it stops execution and writes to VBox.log messages about RESET in loop. Any guest OS do not boot anymore, any livecd or something. This is mysterious for me, no segfaults, no any unusual behavior other than this hang, so I attach VBox.log flooded with reset messages here. I have many environments (grsecurity-enabled and bare-metal linux boxes), this was reproduced everywhere. Only one note: VirtualBox installed from source code (OSE 4.1.0). 4.0.8 and below versions are totally fine. Also a topic on forum: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=44903
