#704 fixed BSOD when running 2 virtual machines -> fixed in SVN/1.5.2 Esteban Felipe
Description

I get a BSOD when running 2 virtual machines at the time. One is Ubuntu and the other is windows 2003. Ubuntu is running on host interface and windows 2003 is on NAT. Both are configured with dynamic disks and 1GB of ram.

I'm hosting in XP SP2 with 2GB of ram and a Athlon 64X2 5600.

The minidump is attached

#705 fixed usb in clients on Fedora 7 hosts kiilerix
Description

Adding to what is said in User Manual "11.4.6 USB not working":

On Fedora 7 usbfs is mounted in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit as

mount -n -t usbfs /proc/bus/usb /proc/bus/usb

vboxusers can thus not use usb; all usb devices will be shown greyed out.

The following command gives vboxusers access access to use usb in clients.

 mount -t usbfs -o remount,devgid=$(awk -F: '/^vboxusers:/{print $3}' /etc/group),devmode=664 /proc/bus/usb /proc/bus/usb

Recommended action:

  1. The section in the User Manual should be extended.
  1. A descriptive warning should be given when usb devices can't be accessed by the user. Just greying the devices is no help.
  1. A smart solution automating this should be made ;-)
#708 fixed Unable to install Linux/Win XP in guest on Vista Frank
Description

Hello, I installed Virtualbox 1.5 on my computer. I could create virtual machines for ubuntu (7.04) and knoppix. Both are running from live-CDs (ISO) fine, I downloaded the latest versions.

But when I try to install both on the virtual harddrive it fails. I checked several things with ubuntu:

  1. starting with automtic creating of drives, this fails with a error message "unable to create swap.."
  2. creating a root and swap with gparted from the live-CD before the

installation, then start installation, it looks fine, but after 34 % (copying files) it stopped, nothing is happening for hours, no progress.

I tried knoppix as well (knoppix-installer) it started an as well but stopped during copying files on the virtual harddisk

Finaly I tried to install Win XP from CD: It booted from CD, installation started, I created a new partition; during formatting, it always stopps with 20 % progress.

For me it does not look like a problem with Linux or XP, more something related to Virtualbox, the Host-System or Hardware. May be it is related to SATA?

I am using the following system: Dell Dimensiom E521 AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ 4 GB RAM Radeon X1300 2 x 320 GB HD (SATA)

Host: Windows Vista Home Premium
