#213 obsolete Windows install rejected from virtual and SUBSTed drives gotfryd
Description

WindowsXP host, the VirtualBox_1.3.8_Win_x86.msi file as install. When the install file is located on virtual drive, created with the filedisk driver: http://www.acc.umu.se/~bosse/ OR is located on "drive letter" created with the SUBST command, then after getting all installation info, when the install process themself starts (a message "Installing InnoTek VirtualBox" is displayed), a exception window with title "InnoTek VirtualBox" and message:

"Error reading from file: [here the real path and name] Verify that the file exists and that you can access it"

opens and the installation must be aborted by "Cancel" ("Retry" does nothing). Installation from both CD-ROM and (via USB accessed) flash card works.

IMVHO may be acceptable, temporary inserting a warning about restriction of the installation source location in docs, as it is not critical, but may be surprizing.

Excuse my bad English!

#214 invalid Windows NT 4 crashes during installation kingbox
Description

I recently removed 1.3.2 from my xp-prof host and moved to 1.3.8, because NT-4 Workstation Setup crashed. The de-ionstallation of 1.3.2 caused a blue-screen. A second de-installation was nessacary. The 1.3.8 is not able to start an old suse-linx guest or even an new created guest.

Error Message is allways:

VirtulBox 1.3.8 failed to start.

VirtualBox support driver version mismatch. VBox status code -11 (VERR_VERSION_MISMATCH) Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Console Interface: IConsole (1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45)

Maybe, installation of 1.3.8. wasn't sucessfull ???

Kind regards Jens

#215 fixed Can not record audio xerces8
Description

vbox 1.3.8 on Windows 2000 pro SP4

When I start a VM :

  • I can not record sound in the host, for example Windows Sound Recorder gives an error, that the sound format is not supported (if no VM is running, the this works)
  • In the guest (Windows 2003), no sound can be recorded. There is no error, but only silence is recorded.

The VM has audio activated and the type is Windows DirectSound.

I also tried another PC with Windows XP Pro SP2, vbox 1.3.8. There only the second problem is present.
