#7463 worksforme 32 bit windows 7 guest crashes on 64 bit windows 7 host hangerglide
Description

I've had this issue every since moving my main pc to windows 7 64 bit. Most of the time when I run a guest 32 bit windows 7 it crashes badly. I need to close vbox via the host task manager. I don't have issues with any other os I've installed including windows 7 63 bit. I've installed a windows 7 guest many times; most blow up after the install process is completed and the guest reboots. I've tried from scratch and by using the CloneVDI tool - no difference.

My issue is discussed on this thread: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=32710&start=0

#11767 obsolete 32-bit COM classes not registered by installer under 64-bit Windows hosts rousseauhk
Description

See https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35918

Symptom: 32-bit apps that interact with the virtualbox COM SDK dont function when run on 64-bit windows hosts.

Errors are e.g.

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {B1A7A4F2-47B9-4A1E-82B2-07CCD5323C3F} failed due to the following error: 80080005 Server execution failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80080005 (CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE)).

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {3C02F46D-C9D2-4F11-A384-53F0CF917214} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)).

I believe the solution is simply making sure the correct regsvr32 is run when the component is installed. There is an MSDN article here which might be helpful: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282747

#9580 fixed 32-bit Windows XP guest hangs on 64-bit guest Ubuntu Adam Ryczkowski
Description

Windows XP SP2 and SP3 hangs just after installing. It has something to do with services, since disabling most services (by using "safe mode" or disabling them manualy) buys some time, but eventually windows GUI hangs anyway.

This is pretty much a show stopper, since you are just forbidden from using any Windows XP on my host (I haven't tried other guest OSes, but I have tried three different Windows XP: SP2, and two SP3)

From guest perspective, during this "hanging" you can still press alt+ctr+del to invoke task manager, but you are pretty forbidden from making any disk browsing related activity, like seeing "my cumputer" or just browsing for files in standard file dialog box. Launching explorer hangs on displaying menu start bar.

Normally I would assume it is some problem with Windows, but I have spent many days on tracking this problem and it seems clear it is related to VirtualBox: a) I am able to install and run the same Windowses XP on VMWare Workstation on the same host without any problem b) When I install the same windowses on physical partition as host operating system (i.e. without virtualization) I have no problems. c) and when I run those no-virtual Windowses as VirtualBox guests (after changing hal, stopping necessary hardware-related services, and other stuff done by OfflineSysPrep) I experience the same problem.
