#3393 obsolete Vbox in WinXPSP2 does not see my USB device Udmek
Description

Can't use usb devices in guest. When trying to add a device to filters by Settings-USB-"Add filter from device", there's a greyed out <no available devices> there, although the device (USB flash stick OR bluetooth dongle) is connected. Tried adding a filter manually by Vendor ID, then starting guest. In bottom right corner, a right click on USB icon showed the same <no available devices>. When installing vbox I did choose the usb component and I did reboot after install. Thank you for your time

#3416 obsolete USB misconfigured in W2K guest hobbit
Description

I'm not even sure how to describe this in the right terms, but after installing the guest additions in my 2K VM I get an "add new hardware" dialog upon inserting a USB thumbdrive; after going through that I see a yellow-question-mark "USB Controller" under "other devices" in the Device Manager [devmgmt.msc] the property-sheet of which claims that the drivers aren't installed correctly. Trying to do so and letting it search around in \program files\sun and the guest-additions ISO doesn't turn up anything it's happy with so the device remains misconfigured, which I suspect is behind not letting any USB devices work. . I've searched the archives extensively and can't find anything that comes sufficiently close to this set of conditions to let me solve this on my own. What did I miss during install? I've got filters set up for various USB devices, the host OS sees them just fine without VB running, etc etc, it's just that my 2K guest has a mangled idea of what's there. . Let me know what other information I can collect.

#3419 obsolete High CPU usage with iTunes with Windows XP Guest Paul
Description

Host: Ubuntu 8.04 32 bit on AMD 2.4 Ghz, 2 gigs RAM running Virtualbox 2.1.4 Guest: Windows XP SP3 with 512MB RAM allocated

If iTtunes is running (idle) CPU usage on the Ubuntu host hovers at around 60%. CPU usage on the XP guest is minimal. If I try to do anyting with iTunes, CPU usage on the Ubuntu host if peaked at 100%, which maked iTunes very slow and unusable. If I close iTunes, CPU usage drops to nothing.

Same occurs on laptop with dual core 2.5Ghz and 4 gigs of RAM. running Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit as host. CPU usage hovers at around 40% when iTunes is idle in the XP guest

Tried the following without any success.

  • disable iTineshelper (found this in another post)
  • disable any additional apps/services such as antivirus

Had the problem since I 1st installed VB 2.0.6, hopped the newer versions would have fixed the problem.

Logs show the following at times when starting and closing iTunes

00:01:12.202 PIT: mode=2 count=0x4ad (1197) - 996.81 Hz (ch=0) 00:01:49.799 PIT: mode=2 count=0x2ead (11949) - 99.85 Hz (ch=0) 00:03:45.745 PIT: mode=2 count=0x4ad (1197) - 996.81 Hz (ch=0) 00:04:33.132 PIT: mode=2 count=0x2ead (11949) - 99.85 Hz (ch=0)
